The letter published highlights the value of attending Alison's Monday
- 10am-11:30am: Kundalini Yoga and
- 12 Noon-1pm: Chair Based Yoga
offerings at The Hub, St Peter's Church, Peterchurch, HR2 0RT while also spelling out public transport issues.
The published letter text
Experiences I've had regarding attending a Kundalini Yoga workshop in
the same general HR2 postcode as my home help to highlight just some of
the social exclusion problems caused by years of Conservative central
and local government policy regarding travel logistics in HR2 at a time
of Climate Emergency policy and with a December 12 General Election date
cast.
Since September 2018, my health and vitality levels have
benefited considerably through Chair Based Yoga at Belmont Community
Centre and classes that have followed with the same teacher. In Autumn
2018 when I started helping that teacher with publicity for her other
classes, I explored the possibility of my travelling to her mid-day
Monday classes at The Hub in Peterchurch at HR2 0RT, but discovered via
Traveline Midlands website that I'd have to start my journey on the
Sunday to get there for midday Monday!
More recently my
attendance at a November 9, 2019 Kundalini Yoga workshop at HR2 0RT run
by the same teacher was greatly aided by a lift from that teacher and
her offer of a lift back. (Last bus home would be before 4pm, though the Workshop ran till 5:30pm!) The
offer of a lift from Locks Garage if I could make it for 1:30pm
produced a Traveline Midlands-researched bus time requiring an hour's
wait on a very cold Saturday, and teacher's feedback, "Crazy! I'll pick
you up from Belmont at about 1:15pm" even though it added to her mileage
from near the Welsh border.
That lift and the Kundalini Yoga
workshop worked brilliantly, and another class member took over my lift
home arrangements as Belmont was her next stop: family chauffeuring!
Getting there and Yoga make connections!
My
friendly chauffeur home also told me that her fitness levels have
plummeted since she learned to drive rather than walk or attempt to walk
everywhere. I'm sure that is a common problem, as reported to me by
Hereford Transport Alliance!
I also
learned though that whereas it costs me nothing to get from Belmont to
Peterchurch by Senior Bus Pass after 9:30am would cost me nothing, it
costs fare-paying bus passengers about £7 or £8! Something for my fellow
pensioners to think about on December 12 regarding who pays for
Conservative 'austerity' measures, perhaps?
